Knights of Southern Virginia University! As students who have already embarked on this remarkable academic journey, you are well-acquainted with the unique blend of opportunities and experiences that are provided here on campus and in our area. In this article, we’re about to shine a spotlight on the exciting world of job opportunities that await you right here at SVU, and in the Buena Vista-Lexington area.

On-campus jobs

Southern Virginia University is committed to providing its students with valuable career opportunities, even during times of transition. Recently, our Career Development office underwent a revamp, temporarily affecting its job posting services. In response to this, SVU’s dedicated staff members are stepping up to ensure students still have access to job listings. One such example is Adam Whipple, who will be posting job openings on the Knight app within the Jobs & Career Center section. While this task adds to staff members regular responsibilities, they aim to start gathering jobs from various departments and the local area to support students in their job search endeavors. This proactive approach demonstrates SVU’s dedication to its students’ professional growth and is a testament to the university’s commitment to the success of their students. Stay tuned for updates as SVU continues to enhance its career services.

Off-campus jobs

Off campus there are also many intriguing job opportunities. If you are interested in wildlife and the care of animals, the Virginia Safari Park near Natural Bridge is looking for part-time keepers and rangers to work at the park. At the park you’ll be working amongst animals like zebra, tigers, rhinos, and giraffes. It is a very unique experience and one of the more exciting job opportunities in our area.

Students who might be interested in potentially entering the medical field could gain some experience being a pharmacy assistant at Buena Vista Family Pharmacy in downtown BV. There you will be responsible for giving people their prescriptions and checking them out at the counter. They are looking for people with past retail experience and people who are comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

As many may know, there is a Chick-Fil-A opening in Lexington this December. Not only is it exciting for the community but it is also a fun opportunity for work. Chick-Fil-A is known for being a good place to work, as it is also closed on Sundays which is a plus for students who are members who have religious obligations on Sundays. The Chick-Fil-A when it opens in December will be right next to Walmart in Lexington.
