In February 2017, a group of data scientists, electronic and software engineers, and industrial designers, all senior professionals from top companies with an extensive background in AI and IoT, joined forces to embark on a journey as stimulating as it was challenging. We founded Smart IoT Labs with a clear goal: to progress from the Smart Home to the real Intelligent Home while making it accessible for everyone — not only a few tech-savvy people.

After these years of hard work, we have managed to create a technology capable of using AI for self-learning and autonomous decision-making. This ushers in a new era: one in which our homes learn about our habits and anticipate our needs before we even think about it. Smart IoT Labs took us to this point. Now it gives way to sofiathinks, a startup whose technology provides services that improve people’s lives in the place that matter the most: their homes.
A brain in the heart of the house
Our product is set to revolutionize this area of technology. Sofia is a virtual brain that self-learns, thinks, and makes decisions autonomously and proactively to ensure the comfort and safety of the household, with a different approach to what has happened previously in the sector: maximum respect for users’ privacy.
In a new and refreshing way compared to what we have seen so far, our technology provides a simple and single Super Sensor device per room. It sends information about what is happening in the house to our brain, Sofia. From there, she studies, learns, trains, and adapts to the habits of each household.

Sofia is a platform made of software, hardware, and out of the box AI models. It allows us to fast-build different services on top of it, enabling the future sofiathinks Home Apps Marketplace. We will launch our Home Guard Kit (Security and Monitoring) by end of the year. Our Energy Saving Helper and Elderly People Carer will come soon after that.
From a Living Lab
To create Sofia we did not have to move to Silicon Valley. Instead, we created a real Living Lab: if we wanted to improve life at home, we literally needed to settle in one.
In 2018, we took our computers, our wires, our experience, and our passion for the project and we moved to a small town near Seville (southern Spain), into a house we filled with sensors. From there we researched everything related to this new paradigm of the intelligent home that today, after these years of daily effort, is already a reality.

Sofia is not about gadgets, but about a whole system that forms an authentic brain capable of offering experiences of comfort, and with which you can communicate in an honest, natural, and fun way. Actually, she enables you to talk with your home using your favorite Smart Speaker and even chat with it using Telegram.
Sofia thinks about you
Sofia honors the Greek goddess of wisdom. The name reflects that we are not talking about a classic smart home, but about a truly intelligent home. After the rebranding work we did together with Z1 Digital Studio, we clearly saw that the reference to classical Greece was perfect for this new era.
What is it that makes us human? The ability to think, of course. That’s where the name sofiathinks comes from — to convey to our future clients that our Sofia reasons, learns, and cares about everything that happens at home. She is able to make decisions related to comfort, health, safety, or even energy saving.
Our commercial name, sofiathinks, allows us to play with the formulation of our product capabilities: sofiathinks “about your care”, “about your family”, “about your needs.” We will be able to tell you more about Sofia soon, about a new lifestyle in which technology is indeed vital, yes, but it exists to take care of what really matters. We look forward to sharing what comes next with you.
