Don’t preschoolers just love expressing their ideas? The preschool years are considered the most creative times in a child’s life. While the children’s imagination is still developing it is very important to foster their creativity and find new ways of looking at things.

This week we had some very exciting and engaging activities planned for our preschoolers to explore the shapes we see around us. The ability to identify shapes is an important mathematical skill and is quite rewarding for children because their world is full of wonderful shapes and colours.

From using shape moulds in wet sand turf trays to going on a shape hunt , guessing the shapes in the mystery box, tossing the bean bag in the shapes marked and looking for hidden shapes everywhere we had some of the most amazing learning experiences this week! The children really surprised us by using their imagination to create some magnificent models using shapes. One of our preschoolers arranged diamond-shaped pattern blocks and called it ‘a dinosaur.’ Another little one used foam blocks to make a pretend camera and perfectly modeled the use of a lens which was simply amazing. At the end of the week the children were surprised with another fun activity where they made shape moulds in ‘jello’ trays and loved tasting them too!

We were super proud to get positive feedback on learning from our parents! One little guy used his toy cars at home and arranged them to make a triangle. We look forward to hearing from all of you about the wonderful learning extensions your children experience at home!
