Our Kindergarteners have been involved in multiple, hands-on, counting and numeracy activities this week. This week they revised one-to-one correspondence at they counted the number of objects in a small set. One tricky part of this concept is coordinating number names with taking an counter. Some children match more numbers per counter while others do the reverse. One-to-one correspondence is a foundational numeracy concept which we use on a daily basis.

The children used linking chains to learn one-to-one correspondence. As they learned to recognise numbers, count and add links at the same time, they combined fine motor skills development with basic math practice, making math fun! At the end, they made bracelets and necklaces with their chain links, counting whose jewellery had the most number of links!
