Hands-on play is awesome and a great tool for early learning. It is fun when learning is presented in a joyful and creative way to young minds. We hosted a wonderful Phonics Day for our Ivy Saplings on Friday!

The students started their day off with a quick review of the different letter sounds, followed by a fun game of sight word bingo. They were then led to play different games set up outside.

One of the most popular games of the day was the Bean Bag Toss. The students really enjoyed playing the bean bag toss in teams, as they practiced throwing the bean bags at the words laid out on the ground, and the teacher called the words out. The students also had a blast at the water balloon toss as they tossed water balloons at words written on the wall, after the teacher called out words.

What do you think our preschoolers were doing all this time? The day’s fun extended to them as well! They were keen to explore the amazing alphabet activities starting from a letter hunt in the squishy spaghetti to fishing for letters in the bubbly trough tray, using scoops and tweezers to fetch letters from the glittery foam and many more! The lovely autumn breeze filled the air with more excitement.

Our preschoolers loved to dig in for letters in the sand, get messy, explore and create with all sorts of letter sensory play. Not only were they having fun but gained many skills such as communication, working cooperatively and building muscle strength too.

The day ended with yet another fun filled activity where the children listened carefully to the clues for scavenger hunt and looked around the classroom to look for the letters hidden in the bookshelf, in the play dough basket or on the baking tray.
