DONALD TRUMP: THE THIRD PRESIDENT IMPEACHED IN U.S HISTORY
The U.S: House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump on the charges of abuse of power and obstructing Congress. Democrats made the efforts and further inflamed tension of partisan in Washington. And, the deepened the nations’ ideological divide.
The historic votes on Wednesday evening that won the support of almost all Democrats in the house, but not a single Republican. Donald Trump is the third president in U.S history to be impeached. And also, the only impeached president in U.S history likely to win his party’s nomination for re-election.
The Senate will hold a trial on impeachment early next year to decide whether Donald Trump should be convicted on the charges and be removed from office. Although, the Republicans who hold the majority will certainly acquit him.
House of Democrats took depositions from a dozen witnesses, held weeks of hearings, and wrote hundreds of pages documenting the President’s efforts in pressurizing the president of Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son.
The public support for the President’s impeachment went much above 50% in polling, there’s much less scope, and evidence in the proceedings left him in a worse position politically right before the 2020 elections.
It took nearly six hours of debate, and the House of Democrats voted 230 to 197 to adopt the first two impeachment articles. The first article is alleging he misused the power of his office to pressure Ukraine president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden. And the second article accusing him of abstracting Congress, the House of Democrats voted 229 to 198 on the latter.
Nancy Pelosi, the House speaker, said after the votes,
“I could not be prouder or more inspired by the moral courage of House Democrats.”
The Republican leader Kevin McCarthy delivered the closing arguments,
“the Legacy of House Democrats will be the most partisan and least credible impeachment in American History. The case is based on second-hand opinions and hearsay. They have no grounds for impeachment.”
Just minutes before the voting began, Donald Trump took the stage for a campaign rally in Battle Creek, Michigan.
“After three years of sinister witch hunts, hoaxes, scams, tonight the House of Democrats are trying to nullify the ballots of tens of millions of patriotic Americans. The Democrats will pay the price in the next elections,”
Trump addressed the crowd.
The historic debate and vote took place in the very same chamber where former presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached.
The U.S Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell came out strongly in defense of the president,
“Democrats finally did what they decided to do a long time ago. They voted to impeach President Trump. Democrats didn’t have to rush this, but they chose to stick to their political time table at the expense of pursuing more evidence through proper legal channels. Nobody made Chairman Schiff do this; he chose to.”
As we await for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, make an announcement. The Trump ally Representative Mark Meadows of North Caroline will not seek reelection, as his name is reportedly being floated for positions inside the administration. The Democrats will try to pry voter’s attention from impeachment drama tonight as they hold a primary debate in Los Angeles.
