NixOS is not a new Linux distro. It is a 21-year-old Linux distro. NixOS is an open-source Linux distribution based on the Nix package manager.

NixOS uses the declarative configuration approach, allowing reproducibility and portability in your machine.

NixOS is a very mature Linux distro compared to other Linux distros in terms of package registry (repository). It has a larger number of packages with the help of many active open-source contributions. Every package is up to date in every six-month release cycle.

Home Manager and Flake are part of advanced NixOS. With that, you gain the actual strength of NixOS.

What is Home Manage and Nix Flake?

The home manager tool helps you to manage a user environment using the Nix package manager. The home manager allows you to write declarative configurations of user-specific (non-global), install packages, services, dotfiles (.bashrc, .zshrc, etc.), etc.

The home manager comes with multiple configuration options for configuring users' environments.
