You Have Mistaken Maturing With Unconscious Living
And your life is inadvertently going to waste. Caught up in unimportant routines and goals and desires, you have given into the rat race.
I have noticed something about myself in the past few years — perhaps you have too. An insidious change, cropping up under our noses. We may be too caught up “living life” to notice it. But failing to notice it does not make it go away.
In years of old, I remember being as Marcus Aurelius describes in Meditations 3.2:
“The way loaves of bread split open on top in the oven […], or how ripe figs begin to burst. And olives on the point of falling: the shadow of decay gives them a peculiar beauty. Stalks of wheat bending under their own weight […]
And other things. If you look at them in isolation there’s nothing beautiful about them, and yet by suppleneting nature they enrich it and draw us in. And anyone with a feeling for nature — a deeper sensitivity — will find it all…
