Have you ever wondered why Moldavite is green? I mean, it’s a pretty unique color for a stone that (kind of) fell from the sky. Turns out, there’s a cool reason behind it.

Moldavite is actually a type of tektite, which is a fancy word for a rock formed by a meteorite hitting the Earth.

This happened about 15 million years ago, and it was a huge event. When the meteorite crashed, it created a bunch of heat and pressure.

This melted the rocks and the earth around the impact site.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting.

The green color in Moldavite comes from the way the Earth’s minerals mixed with the meteorite’s materials.
