The Only Impulse Buy I Never Regret

And those are… BOOKS + what’s on my TBR list?

Buying from Amazon is not so pleasing an experience as this.

There are three types of purchases:

  • the one you regret after purchasing (instantly or after a period of time)
  • the one you cherish (in the long term)
  • the one that keeps you hooked when you have spent all the money you had

Books kind of fall into the third category for me. Though I have been what I’d call a “voracious reader,” my reading habits have been impulsive — just like purchasing them.

Reading streak is not my cup of coffee. Some days I read for hours and hours (and hours), and on the very next day, I’d forget which book I was reading.

And that’s why I am unable to finish most of my ebooks. They lie there patiently waiting for their turns, which might never come.

But adding some new books to the reading list is never a bad idea, is it?

And that’s what I never regret buying (or impulse buying): BOOKS.

I don’t know why, but I can’t justify buying wireless earphones — when you have a wired one — worth Rs. 2000 when you can buy so many books with them.

And that’s exactly what I did. I looked at my shelf and discovered that there were only 2 books I hadn’t read. One of them is ongoing.

And does that look good? No, right? TBR lists are meant to have at least a dozen books untouched.

So I deep-dived into what I wanted to read next. And for the first time, I’m going to read a lot of classics: history, philosophy and economics. Sounds boring, right?

But at the moment, I’m really into them. Sorry!

I don’t know if I’ll be able to even understand most of them, but I’m optimistic, plus we also have YouTube.

So here’s what I’ll be reading next. (You can expect a couple of articles on any of them in the coming days).

  1. Arthashastra by Kautilya
  2. Desire by Haruki Murakami
  3. Letters from a Stoic by Seneca
  4. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
  5. Birthday Girl by Haruki Murakami
  6. Alexander the Great by Jacob Abbott
  7. Psychology (by Pearson) by Saundra and K. Ciccarelli
  8. So You Want To Know About Economics by Roopa Pai
  9. The Politics: Aristotle’s philosophy on “Man” by Aristotle
  10. You are the Best Wife: A True Love Story by Ajay K. Pandey

That is my list. I think I’ll spend the rest of my year with them only and still not finish it. Let’s see.

Almost all the books and authors are new names for me, as in I have not read a single book of them.

I have heard about Haruki Murakami a lot so wanted to give it a shot and that’s why two short story collections: Desire and Birthday Girl.

Coming to Economics, how can I miss the true Indian classic, Arthashastra? Truth be told, I am very sceptical if I’ll be able to understand it. Nonetheless, I am very excited to give it a read. Arthashastra is a literal Hindi translation for Economics.

Another one that I think will be relatively easier to understand is So You Want To Know About Economics. Reviews were good, and I was getting it on offer, so why not?

And the rest, as you can see, are about philosophy and stoicism and psychology. Can’t say anything about that.

And one fluffy romance too — You are the Best Wife: A True Love Story. I think that’s the first one I’ll complete. LOL.

P.S. I also have a couple of ebooks that I’m currently reading on Leonardo da Vinci as this man and his life caught my fancy and I just can’t get over the achievements of this Renaissance Man.

And an article definitely coming soon on him. (Or maybe on his qualities & principles to become a lifelong learner.)

Okay, bye! Let me complete Game of Thrones before these come. (okay, so I won’t be able to, I think, because some of them are coming tomorrow only).

“May I always have time to read new books” —me, just now

*brags subtly haha* (Tbh, can’t wait to read them all.)
