Network Marketers: 4 Things I Wished I Knew.
Now You Do
I remember when I started my Network Marketing Business; I thought, All I Have to do was follow a few laid out steps and I will become a millionaire.
Oh, how gullible I was.
I was desperate for something extra, something new. I was hungry for self-development but I didn’t know that was what it was. I just know that I wanted more.
So I bought the lie, all of it.
I got the steps, learned it, mastered it. Implemented it to the best of my ability, nothing happened. I kept at for a month, no result, instead, I got mocked, rejected, and frustrated.
My sponsor asked me to repeat them in the second month which I did. Still no result.
By my third month, I was ready to call it quits because I have tried all I was told and I was nowhere near Where I want to be. Instead, they kept telling me to keep at it.
It wasn’t until my fourth month (I gave myself an extra attempt) that I had my very first sign up. Then I realized. There is no laid out one-size-fits-all strategy in Network Marketing, there are just a few steps one has to take but how you take them depends on you and your capability.
When starting a Network Marketing Business, the very first and most important step you need is:
OWN YOUR BUSINESS: If I had owned my business, done my research, and come up with my strategies tailored for my own customers, I would have had more success. But I kept relying and depending on my sponsor, who taught me his own strategies tailored for his own customers, and I didn’t get results. So own your business from the get-go. Identify why you want to start a Network Marketing business and you will also identify people who share the same situation.
DEVELOP YOURSELF: Your business cannot progress more than you. Your business grows at the rate you grow. So if you want to experience genuine success, you have to develop yourself. One book that helped me a lot was The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I read GoPro which also laid out strategies that didn’t help me as much as The Secret. The Secret helped me build myself first.
IDENTIFY YOUR CUSTOMERS: Through prospecting, identify your customers so you don’t waste time talking to the wrong people. I spent the first 3 months sharing my business opportunity with people who don’t need/want it. I thought everyone wants to make money through Network Marketing. But when I realized that it is not everyone that desires building a business the way I desire it and I started focusing on just my desired customers, I started seeing results.
BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF: One of my flaws in life is impatience (I hope dear husband doesn’t get to read this) I have always known (but I always deny it) Impatience in growing the business is the challenge many Network marketers have. They want that quick cash, that instant gratification. Perhaps it is because of our orientation and how our sponsors presented the opportunity. But the Network Marketing business is a business of patience and dedication. Be patient with yourself as you grow. The more you develop yourself, the better you become and the more your business expands.
Changing the narrative is my aim in my journey in the industry, making my new partners understand what it takes to build and sustain in their various businesses. I have a team of over 2000 in less than 2 years and I Am in no hurry anymore. Instead, I focus on developing myself and sharing my experiences in my newsletter, which I called from rookie to upskilled for Network Marketers (you can subscribe here). This I hope will help new partners truly understand what it takes to build their business and make a better-informed decision to stay or not.
So if you have started your business, develop yourself because, in that process, you will identify what works for you and with that knowledge, what works for your market as well.
