A Dog’s Death

Idlers stood watching a dog plastered by its guts to the road dying.
A little girl in the crowd was crying.
One man decided to put the creature out of its suffering.
Another threatened to assault him, saying
“You have no right.
If the sight
Of blood sickens you,
The only thing you can do
Is turn aside. Let it die by itself.
You are thinking only of your selfish self
And of putting an end to your own suffering.”
Idlers stood watching a dog plastered by its guts to the road dying.
