Cheer Dad

Thoughts on watching my daughter compete.

Chaos and cacophony,
Volume and rhythm dizzies
With sight and sound,
Exhausting attention.

Ever elevating noise
Rattles the marrow,
Tests the heartbeat
With competing pulse.

In entropy moves a gem.
A darling daughter
Who leaps unafraid
Into an unknown future.

With a heart of gold
And a fearless spirit,
She charges with a roar
To shatter every ceiling.

I am afraid
Of today and tomorrow.
I’ve seen enough darkness
To hope she never does.

She shines on the stage,
Invincible and strong.
A light to banish shadow;
A fire to warm the world.

Lead the way young lady.
