Modernity?

You won’t find people wavin’ hello to strangers anymore
They’re too busy textin’, and typin’ galore
We sure got lots, but not like the ole days
Confucius and Christ taught good lessons, I’d say
We’ve fallen far from the well-beaten path
Stringing along with us insanity’s sash
Division and quarreling define our world now
Politics and pastors have taken their vows
We’d rather seek only after what’s good for us
Neglecting our neighbors on a cold empty bus
Who’s got real friends anymore these days?
Just followers and gossipers, all fakes I’d say
Sons and fathers denyin’ each other
What marriage still lasts, “what happened to mother?”
You can’t paint your picture upon a mound o’ kings
Where self is lost and the idolater sings
Family no more, just obeyin’ big brother
Real charity lost beneath one roof or another
Boy, we’re sure makin’ some progress!
Right off that ole ledge to the valley o’ death
Who cares anymore about them ole ways?
We’ve covered our ears to the pleadin’ o’ graves
