We live
in a
society of
SELF aggrandizement
What is lost
in this competition
can’t be taken away —
only misplaced
Somewhere
inside these
McMansions,
we hide
behind
barricades,
shouting through
our screens
at whoever’s turn
it is to bear
the brunt
of the hate
this
week
let’s tear down
these edifices
to ourselves
and throw it
all away;
we’ll lower
our flags
and burn them,
symbols once
endowed with
meaning that
has long
since been
replaced
Let’s get
out from
under cover and
get rid of all
this
clutter
maybe
we’ll rediscover
what it is we
really
need
