Rearview Hollow

There’s a deluge out there
As in the days of Noah
The legacy of Utnapishtim
And the assembly of gods
Unkind to the heirs of Babylon

Streetlights shine as fiery ones
The Cherubim of old
Four-faced chariots
Conveying me
Across aether

Shem has been forgotten
Amidst the congregation
Of overcast skies
And modern ease of passage
Alone

Of what toll must I pay
Through streets and fields
Suffocated by Niflheim’s grey?
Clouds of silent witness
And the throne
Untouched by tendrils of clay

Past the whispers behind me
Only djinn lurk,
Granting wishes to nay-sayers
In the shadow of banishment
By the side of dimensions
Feared by time
And the sanity of all
Mankind
