Round

Fast breaking disaster
spikes the coffee
and cigarettes, yolks spooned
with the toast, so — Here’s to
the morning: all the same
to you — ’Morning — ’Morning!
Rounding out nicely
on the only 7.42,
among the bowlers
and brollies, look!
fields and hedgerows,
fields and hedgerows
uniform as sanity, restful
to the wrenched eye
— city block, city block, city block.
Memos — Did you hear?
By the water cooler —
Tomkins, in the crossfire
No
And round it out.
Tell me more.
