The Well

The moon is dark and from the well,

A gentle sound of dripping water,

Tonight it whispers to those who dwell,

And listens to anguished hearts mutter,

The winds are howling and near the well,

Shadows barely uncover a leggy tree,

No leaves covered the sinistrous shell,

Not a breath was heard, not a plea

A fire burning, far far behind the well,

Springing life, yet the flames are lifeless,

The thought bewitches me like a spell,

And eats till nothing remains but silence…
