What will ever bring humanity together?
Asked the worried young boy.
People kill for power, money, religion and what not.
They quarrel, fight and destroy.
He has seen the news.
He has seen how people of one religion, butcher those of the other. He has seen how politicians fight
To get ahead of one another.
He has heard of terrorists and fascists.
He has a heard of the holocaust.
How could humans do this to one another?
He felt hopeless, he felt lost.

His wise old grandfather listened,
And then he quietly replied,
You see son, humans are like this.
It’s not like they haven’t tried.
Even during wars, alliances were made
Countries fought side by side
But still millions of dead bodies were laid.
What brings humanity together you ask.
You may think the answer is joy or peace.
But sadly that is never true.
For there is no greater enemy of friendship than bliss.
What brings humans together you see
Is nothing else but a
Deadly common enemy.
That’s why this deadly virus
Has made us all forget
What religion, party, caste or creed we belong to
And made us all regret
How we failed to focus on the necessary
How we were busy fighting then.
It was only when an enemy of humanity appeared
Could we all unite again.
Happiness couldn’t unite us.
Neither could health.
What did unite us perhaps,
Was the loathed fear of death.
