From The New Publishing to everyone!

Regarding our previous post, we have done some searching on poems and found alot of interesting ones available online on the internet.

Here, we can find some on Project Gutenberg website— which features some of the works by several popular poets that the license went under public domain. Also, as defined by Standford University Library, copyrights & fair use (and also from Silvia Lanfranchi medium post from 16 Nov, 2016), copyright of published works will lasts 70 years after the author’s death — in case that the work is done by a single author. If the work is done by several authors, the copyrights ended 70 years after the last surviving author pass away.

In this sense, as of 2017, all poetry written before 1947 is considered public domain (excluding further translations of the poem).

Starting from that, we then start defining a criteria to choose our poem. For us, using english public-domain classical poetry is the best option. Here are the reasons:

  • Classical poems are timeless titles that dated back till the very first centuries. Here, we don’t have to worry about the license because of the time of its publication.
  • Choosing english language, we can skip the part about translation (and it’s license)

Then in the future, we can consider printing classical poetry from other languages

Poem of Quotes and Poetry Soup provided us with names of poets and poem that falls into such categories. However, after understanding which poem we wanted to print, we should crosscheck weather or not the words are precise and correct as the original ones.

The ways of treating the featured image is still need further research and tests, however, the plan now is to try to find images from google that are labeled for reuse with modifications that can go with the content. Or even further, we can try to image a collage from photo found in such method.

Will keep you all updated as soon as possible :-)
