It’s time we had a chat about renaming Columbus Day. This isn’t one of those “tear down all statues” diatribes, this is really all just about a little common sense. The common sense that Christopher Columbus was far from all that— in fact pretty downright terrible if you think about it— and it’s not like he was even the first European to discover the “New World” anyways. Come on!

No, that honor goes to Viking explorer, Leif Erickson, who discovered the Americas a full four hundred years earlier than Columbus. And it’s in celebration of this feat that the brand new biannual magazine Scandinavian MAN is launching its inaugural edition.

Scandinavian MAN’s goal is the bringing of svelte, simple Nordic values, personalities, and brands to a global stage. The magazine blends a mix of mesmerising fashion photography, in-depth portraits and stories, as well as essays and analysis. In its first issue, you’ll read the profile of break-out actor Sverrir Gudnason, star of the Borg/McEnroe movie. You’ll visit Bergen, Norway, and Hestra, Sweden, for some in-depth reporting on Scandinavian tailoring and craftsmanship. And then you’ll travel to the north of Sweden to capture the breathtaking nature in a forward-thinking fashion story. And much, much more!

On top of that, you are cordially invited to the official launch of the publication on October 11, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Neuehouse for cocktails and conversations, hosted by Scandinavian MAN founders Jonas Bergström and Konrad Olsson. Editor-in-Chief Konrad Olsson will lead a panel with Marcus Samuelsson, Chef and co-owner of Red Rooster Harlem
& Streetbird Rotisserie, and Natalia Brzezinski, CEO of Brilliant Minds,
discussing Scandinavian values. Maybe they can also teach us how to manage our healthcare better too.

So, get into the Nordic spirit, buy your issue of Scandinavian MAN at any of our three Manhattan locations — Brookfield Place, Union Square, and Turnstyle — and celebrate the OG explorer, Leif, freaking, Erickson.
