There’s nothing more satisfying than a game of trivia. All of the collective brain residue you’ve built up in the back of your head suddenly comes in handy, from the third lead of short-lived 2007 Fox sitcom Back to You (Ayda Field) to the only former president ever to sit on the Supreme Court (Taft). And just think: if you win, you might get like, fifty dollars off your bar tab? Don’t count on it, though. Some of these can be tricky.

Black Rabbit

91 Greenpoint Ave., Greenpoint
Every Tuesday at 8 PM., Black Rabbit in Greenpoint hosts what their website bills as “the world’s nerdiest trivia night.” The winner gets $25 taken off of their bar tab, with a possible bonus prize of free shots. Popular recurring rounds include “Batman vs. Shakespeare,” in which contestants decide whether a line of dialogue was written by, well, Batman or Shakespeare, and “Pet Sounds,” in which song lyrics are replaced with animal noises.

The Montrose

47 5th Ave., Park Slope
The Montrose’s 8 PM trivia round is part of New York’s citywide trivia league, which spreads to more than 70 locations throughout the five boroughs. You can compete not just against whoever’s at the Park Slope bar that night, but against every other league team throughout the city over the course of a trivia “season.” Five rounds, ten questions per round.

Putnam’s Pub and Cooker

419 Myrtle Ave., Clinton Hill
This 8:30 PM event is just one of many Wednesday nights in the city. The food is great (try the mac & cheese), the prize is huge (a $100 gift certificate), and each round comes with an accompanying song that doubles as a clue. On top of all that, they have house-made drafts, and a bunch of Game of Thrones-themed cocktails (the Red Wedding is much more palatable than the event it’s named for).

Uncle Barry’s

58 5th Ave., Park Slope
The winner of this 9 PM Wednesday trivia night wins a whole $50 off of their bar tab. Uncle Barry’s also allows outside food, which is crucial for bar trivia. You don’t want to be ducking out and running to Artichoke Pizza just as your Hardy Boys round comes up. Or you can just stick behind and eat a Prosciutto-wrapped Twix bar. If that’s your thing.

B61

187 Columbia St., Cobble Hill
Outdoor seating, pitchers of mojitos, and a stack of books to choose from for prizes: B61’s Thursday night trivia round has it all. Pop by at 7:30 PM for some invigorating trivia at the downstairs bar, and maybe head upstairs to sister restaurant Alma for a bite once you’ve won or lost. The bar is named after the city bus that goes down Columbia Street; keep that in mind in case it comes up as a bonus question.
