It might be a bit of a stretch to call German-born, Brooklyn-based Alex Proba a “street artist,” because she hasn’t done a lot of outdoor work, yet, but judging from the work she has done, it’s something the public would like to see more of.

The multidisciplinary designer who originally planned to attend medical school, but decided instead to study spatial and graphic design at the Akademie Mode und Design Hamburg, meticulously blends bold patterns and geometric shapes into an array of eye-popping compositions in various mediums, including wallpaper and rugs. The latter project earned her a mention in New York Times T Magazine and Print mag included her in its 2015 list of the best visual artists under 30.

The human image generation machine also acquired some accolades for “Poster A Day,” a creative undertaking she took on at night while she worked at Kickstarter during the day. As the name implies, she designed a poster a day and posted it online using “found imagery or from shapes and patterns she’s created on her own,” and they “range from geometric to abstract to surreal.”

She recently painted an abstract mural in Chinatown that is unlike most of the work you see on the street, setting it apart from the clutter and Proba has indicated that she plans on doing more exterior work.
