Strap on your roller skates and get ready to party like it’s 1999 at this immersive roller disco in Brooklyn. There will be plenty of Prince bops to skate along to at the Purple Rain-inspired night, and costumes are more than encouraged — this is the perfect time to rock that groovy outfit (or a raspberry beret) you’ve had laying around that needs some love. Let out your most extra self at the roller disco, where there is bound to be plenty of good company. Consider entering the Dance Competition if you’ve got some moves on wheels up your sleeve. Otherwise, just roll around in your sparkly get-up, taking in the other dazzling performers around you. Just remember to snag a ticket ahead of time — everyone wants to hit the disco.

Warm Up at MoMA PS1

Keep the dancing juice flowing in your veins at MoMA’s all-day long dance party series. Warm Up brings the best of live and electronic music to Long Island City, inviting attendees to party amongst a mirrored installation in the museum’s courtyard. They’ve gathered new sounds and DJs from all around the world, and this weekend you can catch Discwoman, Yaeji, Gang Gang Dance (all from NYC!) and many more performers. If you call LIC home, then you can grab a free ticket on a first-come-first-serve basis. If not, make sure to purchase one in advance. This party is about as good as it gets — the music is guaranteed to be popping, and you’re encouraged to touch (and dance on) the art.

West Indian Day Parade

The streets of Brooklyn are going to be a flood of feathers, sequins, and lively music this long weekend with the annual West Indian Parade. The colorful and crazy procession along Eastern Parkway starts at 11, but the festivities begin at daybreak with pre-parade parties happening at 6 am. Celebrate along with the marchers by dressing up in vibrant colors (or showing some skin — there will be plenty of flashy outfits around) and throwing powdered paint at your fellow revelers, all to the sound of steel drums and calypso bands. What better way to immerse yourself in Caribbean culture and heritage than with the biggest party and celebration of the year. And don’t forget to leave room in your stomach for home-cooked dishes from vendors all along the parade route.
