On Hailee Stanfield’s Wiki page, there is the following:
Steinfeld’s father is Jewish and her mother is Christian, and she has said that she “celebrates [s] it all.”Her maternal grandfather, Ricardo Domasin, was half Filipino (from Panglao, Bohol) and half African-American. Steinfeld was raised in Agoura Hills and later in Thousand Oaks, California.
As we all know, Stanfield is in the film Sinners. She is a Creole young woman in the film, though not Creole in real life. She can pass (in the film) as is suggested throughout the film. This is a well-known phenomenon in America with its racial caste system. Many African Americans have been able to pass over the years. They chose to dodge the ditch of racial classification. Some didn’t.
I have no issue with a person deciding what they are. You owe nothing to me or any of us. You own your identity. Race is (here comes the broken record) a social construct. There is nothing biological about race. It is not real; it is a fiction. We are all human beings. Homosapiens. We all come from one human ancestor, as far as we know. That is the science after hundreds of years of research, anthropological work, and deep study. Many humans still cannot accept that or see that.
