What Is the Meaning of Being in Rage Over America’s Racism?

Why did James Baldwin say that Black people in America are in rage? Why did Nina Simone, Richard Wright, and W.E.B. DuBois leave their country of birth? What is the engine of the rage we feel?

Perhaps the words of Robert H. Jackson, U.S. prosecutor from the Nuremberg Trials, can put into context the current battle in the U.S. over white supremacy, the Confederacy, race relations, and freedom is necessary to start.

“We must never forget that the record on which we judge these defendants today is the record on which history will judge us tomorrow.” (Jackson)

Some Nazi leaders and participants, after killing at least six million Jews and millions of others, soldiers and civilians across the world, went to jail or were hanged as a result of those trials, flawed as they were. Yet, the treasonous acts by the southern states in America beginning in 1861, officially to secede from the United States and wage a brutal, bloody war for nearly five years to uphold white supremacy and racism, two evil ideals, never experienced a reckoning and judgment such as the Nuremberg Trials.
