Where Is the Confucius of America?
What shapes this country right now?

Tell me your answer.
My answer is hate shapes the country right now. Pure hatred of the other. If you are not a WASP, you are the “other.” If you don’t bow to WASP values, you are the enemy.
In contrast, you don’t get that impression from a country like China. Or even, Japan. Or, Canada. Or, France. Or, Finland. Or Norway. Or, South Africa. Yes, these countries have their own historical problems but you don’t get the impression that the fuel which pushes these countries along is hate. Intolerance.
China, for example, is the nation it is today because of its history but also because of the teachings of Confucius and the work of Mao Tse Tung and millions of Chinese. These ideals shape the country’s decisions and its policies. It is a society far older than America.
It has been able in the modern era to use the values of the past to shape its future. Most important of these ideas are the Confucian ideas that guide the nation. It is why the country runs the way it does today. Yes, there is oppression in China. Yes, things must be addressed differently. But, you would not label China today as a country of hate. Inflicting pain on as many people as possible is not the point of the society.
In contrast, I have to ask: who is the person who shapes America? What are the values America lives by right now? George Washington? Washington, despite the glorious story of his life, was a slaveowner and a “trigger happy” land speculator.
Columbus? That guy? The guy who set the genocide of many Native American ethnic groups in motion? Him?
If not them, who? And more importantly, what are the country’s key ideals that shape the now and the future?
Don’t say freedom, liberty, and opportunity. We are beyond that now. The President right now is trying to erase all of those ideals. America has to start over. We all must know that by now.
Caroline Jany of the Aspen Institute writes that “America’s true story is one of contradictions, of achievement and failure, its identity rooted in both inequity and opportunity.”
In other words, America has no identity right now except hate and empire. No philosophy of any value to the existence of humanity. It used to preach such things but history and time changed that. Those words fall apart now. Only a fool or a zombie citizen believes those ideals.
America did not treat the Native Americans very kindly nor did it treat the Africans under enslavement very well. Women were treated unequally and still are unequal. The disabled, LGBTQ persons, and immigrants from other countries are also treated terribly.
But even with all of that bad history, it did not have to be like it is now. America is racist, homophobic, sexist, misogynistic, patriarchal and all kinds of others things under the guide of hate. The vast majority of Americans are not under this guise. But, the leadership in office right now is full of hate. It is a regime that ex-ABC reporter Terry Moran said uses hate as its spiritual nourishment.
Here is what a Reagan appointee to the bench said about this administration in just one case before the court this week:
“I’ve never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable. I’ve sat on this bench now for 40 years. I’ve never seen government racial discrimination like this,” (U.S. District Judge William Young)
There are a legion of cases like this. The administration is being sued for all kinds of acts of pure hate as governance. The regime doesn’t care. They are not enforcing discrimination settlements. Police departments around the country under DOJ consent orders are being set free from the decrees. Banks that engaged in redlining and agreed to settlements are being let out of the settlements. Hate, hate, hate, and more hate.
