Teressa Raifford led the rally at Portland’s Dawson Park.
Children joined the protest and helped provide examples of what is being fought for. This pair stood on the main stage during most of the speeches.

Regularly reminded that Black Lives Matter, the organizers helped expand our vision to call for

Trans Lives Matter

Black Women’s Lives Matter

Say His Name

Say Her Name

and more.

Members of the community came out in support. Many clapped, called out names of those lost to police brutality, or merely stood in witness.
Drums provided the rhythm for the rally. Pounding behind the song “Hell You Talmbout”, they echoed the cries of the crowd.

“THE SYSTEM IS NOT BROKEN. IT WORKS LIKE IT WAS DESIGNED TO. THAT IS WHY WE SHUT SHIT DOWN.”

-TERESSA RAIFFORD

“SILENCE IS THE ENEMY. SOUND IS OUR WEAPON.”

-JANELLE MONAE

Members of Wondaland led us in song.

And we were reminded to ask…

HOW

CAN

WE

JOIN

TOGETHER…

INTO A COMMUNITY OF VOICES CALLING OUT THEIR NAMES?

SAY THEIR NAMES.

The rally was organized by Don’t Shoot PDX and other organizations in the community. Janelle Monae + Wondaland attended in support of local movements. All photos were taken by Fio Law and used with permission.
