Every gamer out there knows this fundamental truth about online games. Some players can be jerks. In fact, the anonymity of their identity makes the situation worse. It’s a cruel world in certain online communities.

Gaming developed as technology advanced to entertain us. At the root of the invention, its purpose is to make us happy. The challenging part is us. As online gaming grew, so did competitiveness. With that grew stress, tension, and the toxicity we experience in online gaming today.

However, there are wonderful life experiences you gain from gaming online. One of them is stress management.

I don’t mean gaming to relieve stress, which is totally a fine thing to do. What I mean is, dealing with difficult people in stressful situations.

When gamers take out their frustrations online, things can go from 0 to 100 very quick. I have experienced racism, bigotry, insults, and on rare occasions, even death threats. Good thing everyone hides behind the screen in their safe bubble as they furiously type out their anger. I always pictured them looking like this.

“You are the worst, uninstall the game!” -Anonymous Player

Gaming was supposed to be fun right? Don’t worry, because there is nothing stopping you from continuing to enjoy the game.

Tips and Tricks to Keep a Level Head Gaming

One thing to keep in mind is that these angry gamers don’t know anything about you. Quite frankly, you shouldn’t care what they think, because they’re not worth your time and energy. Many people acting out expect some sort of response. Their frustration grows over time as they realise that they can’t get a response out of you, so play the game called “let’s see how pissed off they get!”

Stay cool like this puppy in sunglasses driving you to work cool.

At the end of the day, they’re stressing themselves out while you take a nice long sip of your ice tea.

How you react to a situation is often decided before the situation occurs. Before you log on to your favourite game, decide how you will react in these situations. That way, when the time comes, you don’t need to spend the energy trying to figure out how to respond. You’ve already decided how you will respond.

These are things you can do in your everyday life. Determine how you will react and practice relaxation techniques such as taking deep breathes in stressful everyday situations. Master your emotions and you’ll find confidence in anything you do. Remaining cool and level headed maintains a positive gaming experience for everyone. No one likes angry toddlers who can’t get a handle on their emotions. Just coddle them with kindness until they fall asleep.
