Thank you for pushing this up to conscious level. I’ve been struggling to understand enough to prepare for the paradigm shift driven by IT for forty years. I write about this extensively and one of the few things that is clear is the inability of the majority of our species to grasp the geometric progression of change that we are experiencing. While we can’t identify with precision the sequence of system disruption we can identify the progression of awareness of specific disruptions among the leading social edge. These shifts are changes in mass consciousness and can be seen in people arriving at questions or concerns concurrently. AI is triggering that awareness now.

While I avoid thinking of AI as a route to divinity, your article forced me to look at that. I appreciate your points but I have come to think of religion as our single greatest, evolutionary point of failure. The irony is that machine learning systems are already beyond our ability to understand and we are struggling with implementation while being aware that our initial data algorithms may be distorted. We need to make absolutely sure we aren’t stacking the deck one way or the other before flowing that data to our, already, semi-divine servants.

Obviously very soon we will need to accept our biological limitation and determine that we must accept AI decisions on faith. I’m not sure how we will deal with that. But we always have created our gods. Now they will be real.
