This cannot stand!

That puts it very clearly. We, in this country, have allowed idiots, haters representing ignorance, and antiquated barbarity to become terrorists courtesy of the social media. We didn’t clean up our own social and cultural mess before we did that and now we are paying the price and it will need to get ugly.

Rights must be sacred and protected above all but those rights protect people and not bigotry, hatred or the ignorance of neolithic religion. We have lived with a poorly defined set of national rights that are only partially valid. Sloppy thinking that has gone uncorrected. No right protects bigotry, violence, hatred, or ignorance. No right protects weapons of any kind. My freedom to think and speak is not a right to intrude or deny. The right to be free of bigotry and hatred needs to be made universal. We have come many decades from the first humanistic implementation of natural rights for all. These have been tremendously expanded but are under constant attack from the ancient forces of ignorance.

The only solution to conflicts of interest is rational and public discussion in protected spaces. We need to define this in the virtual age to when we should be able to make democratic rule direct with everyone person (citizen or not) able to voice their needs, fears, and hopes. In turn they need to accept the imposition of polite silence also. How do we do that? These are the discussions that we all (I mean planet wide) need to be having. The old societies are disappearing and being replaced by virtual societies that are not bound by geography. We need to enshrine respect for all.

We need to recognize when social forms have failed and when social groups have become unacceptable by attacking others. We need to have the strength to isolate and deny them public voice. How do we do that? We need to figure it out. Ignorance is not a virtue. Greed is not a virtue. Hatred may be a virtue but only when it is hatred of bigotry, ignorance, lies.
