You have identified another interesting piece of the 2016 election. It appears you were tracking the creation of the base level botnet foundation used to fake the Trump surge. Quite a number of people working in IT, AI, and social media have been working on this (one good example) and we are seeing the surprising size of the conspiracy. Most people are still stunned (as am I) by the power of automated botnets to magnify a few hundred interconnected sources mirroring a dozen or so websites creating a command and control system for millions of people.

Our understanding of human interaction and assumptions on our ability to manage our societies in critical mass decision making was completely destroyed by an obviously bogus election. Our ethical requirements to find a smoking gun to even begin to take action is so completely out of sync with our continuously connected population and the ease with which that population can be manipulated leaves us where we are today. A mentally incompetent, low grade celebrity, purchased and controlled by a hidden consortium now manages the most powerful weapon system on the planet. And we can’t even publicly admit what most of us know. Even if we could the fake information systems will immediately turn everything into competing lies.
