What if you are just a page in a book?
There is one task:
To hold some words
In place in time and space,
For without you the words would lose their footing
And fall
Without ever having time to say goodbye.
And then the whole book would mean something different
And the author’s aim, if there is an aim, would be either more or less complete.
But you, as a page in a book,
Stay still as guardian,
Protecting its message
Like lovers who protect a mattress’ visage
With quilted bodies.
