Tell us what we can do to help, and we’ll get eyes on it.

Public Good is looking to build a giant collection of pro-social actions. That’s a $10 way of saying we’re looking to you to help us build a library of good deeds that are important, and that anyone can do.

Our aim is to surface these actions in our Public Good for Media (PGM) product. Our PGM widgets, which come in a variety of flavors, find people motivated to make a positive impact at the very moment they are most motivated (just after reading about an issue or cause).

Example. CNN publishes a story about ways to help immigrants. Reader reads story. Is moved. Wants to help. Taps the PGM “Take Action” button to find out how. Lands on a Public Good page and decides if they want to share the campaign, sign up for updates or donate to the organizations working on this cause.

But what else?

Donations are great but money doesn’t solve all problems. (I’ve even heard they can cause more.)

Segue … Straws.

I love smoothies, but I love the Earth even more. As it turns out those little practical beverage hyperloops are greatly impractical for the fish in our Oceans.

In the U.S. alone we use 500 million plastic straws everyday. That’s enough to wrap them around the Earth 2.5 times!

So … what can be done? Well you can donate to a number of great organizations like the Lonely Whale Foundation, but you can also … now, watch me here …. stop buying straws. (Or buy bamboo straws and make everyday feel like a vacation!)

As much as donations are great, nothing would end this form of pollution faster than not using a straw.

This is one example. There are a lot more little, and yet very big things, we can do to make an impact. So I’m asking, what else can I do? But I’m asking it quite literally. And I’m asking you.

How can we help the homeless? How can we stop gun violence in America? How can we ensure an equal education for all?

With our current reach Public Good for Media can put useful actions in front of the eyes of millions of people each month. We just need more good actions to take.

If you have some ideas, please submit this form and share this post … we’ll review all the actions we get and do our best to get them circulating within our media partner’s most important stories.
