It’s been 2 months since we launched There is a bot for that, and WOW, we learned a lot. This is the first post in a series of posts to come where we’ll share some statistics, conclusions, and things we learned from users & searches in our bots search engine.

Top Searches

People searched for bots more than 30,000 times in our search engine, with over 8,800 unique search terms. Here is a chart showing the top 10 searches:

Personally, before checking the data my first guess was that the #1 search term will be related to the adults world (sorry for the lack of faith in you — internet ☺️), but as you can see, the most popular search term in our platform is “Travel”, meaning, people see chatbots as a good way to discover flights, hotels, and planning their next vacation.

The second most popular search term is “Delivery” (and the 4th is “Food”), that’s pretty expected, as if there’s something that bots are good at is food ordering.

Other popular searches which are not from the top 10: news, weather, real estate, bank, insurance, porn, health, and finance.

Top Platforms

In There is a bot for that search engine, we allow people to discover bots by any topic, and then filter their results by platforms (at the moment we support 15 bot platforms). People used this feature over 9,000 times in the last two months and here’s a chart that shows the platforms filtering distribution:

It’s safe to say that Facebook Messenger is the most popular platform among users, and it looks like they did a very good job in raising the awareness of bots in their platform.

Telegram & Slack also have nice numbers, but what really interesting is Web platform. Why does people are trying to find bots for web? I don’t have an explanation for that, if you do, be sure to comment & share your thoughts!

In the other side you got Kik. Although they launched their bots platform before Facebook, only 1.3% of the filtering included them. With more than 400M users, I would expect a higher numbers.

Bonus: 5 Bizarre Searches

In addition to rational searches, people also searched for very bizarre uses for bots. Some will find it funny, other will find it disturbing. You decide.

There is a bot for:

  1. “Pictures of toes”
  2. “Doing the laundry”
  3. “Thwarting my enemies”
  4. “Unicorns”
  5. “Me wanting but also not wanting to get back with my ex”

Does anyone ready to step up and develop a bot for one of these?… 🤔

That’s it for today, be sure to follow us for more interesting posts, stats and number related to bots & searches.

Haven’t tried There is a bot for that yet? Please do.

We also have a Facebook Messenger bot — you’re more than welcome to try it as well (it’s addicting).
