Three years after the events of WandaVision, Marvel is bringing back one of its most intriguing villains: Agatha Harkness. As the breakout character from the hit Disney+ show, Agatha is set to return in Agatha All Along, a new series that promises to continue the supernatural saga while exploring more of the witchcraft side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). If you’ve forgotten what Agatha’s been up to or where her story left off, don’t worry – we’ve got the essentials covered.

In WandaVision, Agatha Harkness first appears as Agnes, the quirky “nosy neighbour” in the black-and-white world of Westview. But as the sitcom world begins to unravel, it’s revealed that Agnes is actually Agatha Harkness, a centuries-old witch with a dark agenda. Her sinister reveal in Episode 7 comes with a catchy song, “Agatha All Along,” which has since become an iconic part of the show.

Agatha’s goal was to understand the powerful chaos magic that Wanda Maximoff used to create the town of Westview. She manipulates Wanda into revealing the origins of her abilities, eventually leading to a showdown between the two witches. In the series finale, Wanda, now fully realizing her identity as the Scarlet Witch defeats Agatha and leaves her trapped under a spell, forcing her to live as the harmless “Agnes” once again.

At the end of WandaVision, Agatha is essentially powerless and imprisoned in the Westview fantasy she once tried to control. After warning Wanda about the dangers of the Darkhold and the powers she unleashed, Agatha’s future seemed uncertain. The Scarlet Witch took the Darkhold and left Agatha in her enchanted state, but Agatha’s ominous final words hinted at future consequences for Wanda and the MCU at large.

Now, with Agatha All Along, Marvel is finally picking up Agatha’s story. The series, premiering on Disney+, will be the second direct spinoff from a Disney+ MCU show, following Echo from Hawkeye, Once again led by WandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer, the show promises to mix mystery, magic, and horror with a bit of humour – a signature style first established in WandaVision.

In Agatha All Along, Agatha believes she is a detective in a crime procedural, a strange twist that mirrors how WandaVision used sitcom tropes to frame its story. Agatha, still living in Westview under Wanda’s spell, finds herself investigating a murder – Wanda’s murder, no less. However, not everything is as it seems, and Agatha quickly realizes that her world is still being manipulated by the remnants of Wanda’s chaotic magic.

Joining Kathryn Hahn, who reprises her role as Agatha, are several returning cast members from WandaVision, including Debra Jo Rupp, David Payton, and Emma Caulfield Ford. Additionally, new faces are entering the fray, including Aubrey Plaza as a mysterious witch named Rio, and Joe Locke, who portrays a “suspicious goth teen” with ties to Agatha’s storyline. Fans are already speculating that Locke’s character could be Billy Kaplan, the comic book version of Wanda’s son, who eventually becomes the magic-wielding superhero Wiccan.

Together, Agatha and her new coven will journey down the Witches’ Road – a magical gauntlet that rewards those who survive it with untapped power. This path to redemption and power may draw heavily from the Scarlet Witch comic book series, where Agatha helps Wanda confront dark magic. Expect Agatha All Along to explore the darker side of magic in the MCU, while also embracing its quirky, comedic elements.

With Agatha All Along, Marvel is continuing to expand its magical lore. WandaVision first introduced the idea of chaos magic and witchcraft, and now, Agatha’s story will deepen our understanding of how this darker side of the MCU operates. Schaeffer has expressed her excitement about being tasked with defining witchcraft in this universe, and Agatha All Along will likely lay the groundwork for future magical MCU projects.

While Agatha All Along is the immediate continuation of WandaVision, it’s not the only one. Another spinoff, Vision Quest, is expected to arrive in 2026, focusing on Paul Bettany’s Vision as he embarks on a journey to reclaim his identity after the events of WandaVision, With Agatha All Along, Marvel seems to be building an anthology-style trilogy that will explore the lives of WandaVision’s key characters beyond the original series.

As Agatha steps into the spotlight, fans are eager to see how this new series will shape the future of the MCU’s magical narrative. With a blend of horror, mystery, and humour, Agatha All Along could provide a fresh take on the superhero genre – one that gives Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness the leading role she deserves.
