What makes a book a great book? Why do some stories leave such an impression on us, even when their plot doesn’t have much in common with our everyday lives? These are reflections on making a choice as tricky as selecting only four outstanding books from decades of reading.

In this list, I considered those that were a milestone for me in some way, and I will explain each of them briefly to make it more straightforward. These choices speak a lot about my literary taste, my way of looking at life, and my way of presenting some of the content that will appear here.
