A supernatural Western game just in time for Spooky Season

Howdy, y’all! I reckon this time of year is the perfect time to explore the old West and shoot cannibals, werewolves, zombies, and other creatures in this free game available for PlayStation Plus members.

Weird West is an action role-playing video game developed by WolfEye Studios and published by Devolver Digital, released roughly a year and a half ago on PC, Xbox One and Series X, PS4 and PS5, and the Nintendo Switch.

You play as five different characters, all with varying backstories in an interconnected, supernatural version of the “Wild West.” The first you play is Jane Bell, a retired female bounty hunter, called to action as a gang of cannibals shoots her young son and kidnaps her husband.

Ludonarrative dissonance, my old friend

Ludonarrative dissonance is a term used in gaming to describe a disconnect between a game’s story and its gameplay, where the actions of the player conflict with the narrative being told, creating a sense of inconsistency or disharmony. It happens when a player’s in-game actions contradict the character’s motivations or the story’s themes.
