The Beginning

Today I purchased two domain names in hopes of monetizing them as blogs. I have no idea if it will work, but the good thing is that each site only cost me $20. And if I fail miserably, they’ll expire in a year’s time and slip into the abyss that is the internet’s archives.

The first site is travelingtowork.com. For some reason, I had this spur-of-the-moment idea to start a website about working remotely from hotels and vacation rentals anywhere in the country. The way we work has changed, so why not document the places and experiences of this new age?

Not entirely sure how I myself will travel often enough to write about it, but we’ll get there. In case you haven’t realized yet…I’m a “one step at a time” kinda girl.

I bought my domain for travelingtowork.com on GoDaddy for $9.99 and then I added domain protection for another $9.99. Not really sure what that covers, but figured I’d rather be safe if I’m investing my money in it.

The second site, astoriaforever.com had a little more thought behind it, because it’s based on my neighborhood and how much I love exploring it. I’d like to create guides, lists, and business owner profiles that showcase all the flavors and fun Astoria has to offer.

I bought my domain for astoriaforever.com on GoDaddy for $9.99 and added full domain protection for this one as well.

I know creating a profitable blog or website takes a lot of work. I’ve created my fair share of blogs in the past just to learn that the thousands of hours it takes to write rarely matches the pageviews you’ll get.

But in the unlikely case I do generate considerable enough traffic to start advertising and making real money, I’d say it’s worth a year trying.
