DIY Shower Steamers (& failed bath bombs..)

I’ve been looking up fun and different things to make using essential oils and I came across shower steamers. I thought it was an awesome idea because they are more practical for everyday use in comparison to bath bombs. I also thought it would be fun to give bath bombs a shot because the ingredients are super similar… if you read the title you found out that the bath bombs were a fail… I don’t even have a bath tub so I ain’t even mad! I liked the way the DIY went last week, so I decided to do one once a week. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!:)

Shower steamers are a cool way to use essential oils while you shower. They are small little disks that you place opposite of your shower head so the steam gently mists it and lets off the aroma of the essential oils. You can create blends to help you relax, wake up, help with congestion, or even tense muscles after a good workout. So check it out….

Clean and disinfect your area

You will need

Add ingredients in the order that they were listed.

Step 1

Add 2 cups of baking soda.

Step 2

Add 1 cup of Citric acid.

Step 3

Add 1 cup of cornstarch.

Step 4

Mix all dry ingredients so there are no lumps.

Step 5

Add 3–5 Tbsp of water or until mold-able. Add the liquid slowly because the mixture will start to react and fizz if you go too quick.

Step 5

Add your choice of essential oil. I will list some of my suggestions below. Also add whatever food coloring you want to make your shower steamers, 1–2 drops is sufficient.

Step 6

Mix up food coloring and EO’s and place into molds. I picked up this mold at Michael’s, but you can use a muffin tin or whatever you have around. Compress the mixture in until it is fully compacted.

Step 7

Let the mixture stay in the molds for about 30 minutes, then gently tap on the back of mold until the shower steamers pop out. If the molds don’t come out with ease, then they probably need more time to harden. Let them sit overnight until they are fully hardened.

24 hours later….

The steamers are good to go! You can keep these fresh in a mason jar for about one to two months. The longer they sit the less fragrant they will be. Place them opposite of your shower head or right in the water if you want the smell stronger.

There ya have it! If your keeping your steamers at home then you can add a couple extra drops of essential oils to make it stronger too.
