Biggest waves in 10 years: Photos & vids of surf icons riding the 50-foot monsters at Mavericks
Get an up-close look at the epic action happening out on the coast.
As you’ve probably already heard, it’s been a big season at Mavericks this year. And by “big,” we mean epic, monstrous and kinda scary.
Yes, the legendary big wave surf break located just beyond Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay (well…Princeton-by-the-Sea, to be precise) has been going off these past five days with multiple days of monster waves since early December. In fact, Mavs has seen some of its biggest action in over a decade, to the tune of 3-story waves (with 40- to 50-foot faces). Unsurprisingly then, it has drawn some of the best big wave surfers from around the world here to the 6–5–0 to ride some giants.
Of course, when it comes to Mavericks, seeing is indeed believing, so we asked some local photogs and friends of The Six Fifty to share with us some of their most exciting photos and videos from this 2020/2021 season which they took in close proximity to the surfing action, straight from the water.
Take a look…
