World Cup Cacophony: The Internet Loves The World Cup

I’m always amused at the amount of silly articles on soccer, but it seemed to get a little ridiculous during this last world cup. And now, after it’s over, it seems to continue with waves of discordant and random outpouring.

Like this one from the Daily Beast: Enjoy Argentina’s Lionel Messi While You Can

I guess the fact that Mario Gomez wasn’t playing and that Philip Lahm is Germany’s captain escapes the author’s attention. Gomez may have been injured but Miroslav Klose is practically 40 … meaning, he still could have taken him. The fact of the matter is, without Spain/Barcelona there would be no Germany/Bayern Munich ….. capeesh?

This article from Salon was a little more critical: Why Soccer Will Never Come Home to the US

I generally shriek at anything an East Coast writer publishes about soccer, even if they get paid to write about the sport, but I partly agree with some of the points. Plus Kareem Abdul Jabbar …. nuf said.

But of course a more harsher outlook comes from an English writer for The Independent: World Cup 2014: A Tournament That Covered Up Some Ugly Truths

I mean the English should be upset at anybody who is even close to being as good at soccer (football) as they are, but even more at countries who routinely win the greatest competition for the sport they invented.

And then there’s Rihanna
