Fear is spoken about a lot, but I feel that fear is something not so widely understood as a society. Before we move forward with overcoming our fears, we should discuss our primitive history with fear and how that’s transformed our relationship with fear today.

As human beings, fear is in the chemical make up of our existence.

Fear was our way of survival, our weapon in natural selection. Our fear was our innate instinct, to hunt, protect, and colonize ourselves against other animals in a primitive world. As we’ve evolved over the millenniums from our primitive nature, our fears have failed to evolve in a similarly parallel manner. The majority of the world no longer needs to utilize this fear and this instinct as a way to survive the world today, yet this anxiety is still very present within our bodies and our minds. Fear has evolved to be one of the greatest ailments of our modern human existence. For a lot of us, our fears and anxieties rule our lives.

Out of our primitive nature, fear has metabolized into many different forms in our human society. Individually and collectively, fear is the root of our evils; the seed of self-doubt and insecurity, the horrifying and complex core of racism, sexism, discrimination, war, prejudice —many challenges facing humanity are rooted in division, disconnection, and primarily fear.

Fear tethers us from the greatest power of our human existence, which is connection.

The greatest strength of our species is our unity, and this connection is sourced from love. Love powers connection, connection powers unity, so love is the greatest force in our known physical world. Love is our humanity’s secret weapon. When we fail to love, we become disconnected from ourselves and others.

Fear wants us to be afraid to love, because fear knows it can be overcome with love.

So we’re afraid to love ourselves, each other, the planet, the suffering, the successful. Our ancient fears translate to our modern minds that we are not safe, that you could get hurt if you love, or feel, question, try, engage, or believe. These fears convince us that the world is a dangerous place with dangerous people. That we must live comfortable lives inside of four walls in order to be safe. Fear tells us that taking risks will hurt us, that the world is scarce and must be lived from this place of scarcity. For many of us, this is something we’re not very aware of.

The evils of the world have capitalized on our ancient habitual behaviors and have created powerful systems, corporations, legislation, and institutions extorting our fears and molding them into the blueprints of our societies.

These systems keep control over us when we are afraid. We are scared to live outside of the limits the modern world has created for us, so we become prisoners of someone else’s reality, we are held hostage in the socially branded beliefs about our human existence and experience.

Corporate America is a prime example of this institutionalized fear. Why is it so hard to quit your job, to quit living and working on someone else’s dime and schedule? Why do we have to risk everything we have sometimes (mentally and physically) to go after our dreams of owning our own business or nonprofit, to become an artist, actor, writer, or musician? This is the way the system has been set up, to advertise this myth of stability, comfort, and “success” with the corporations of the world. This is just one example of the systemic fear our society operates from. We’re afraid to go after what we really want in life because we think we’ll be failing ourselves, our loved ones, and our society if we don’t stick to this path that’s been laid out for us by the global governing powers of our world.

So how do we overcome our fears in a society founded in fear?

It starts first and foremost, from within you. The majority of our fears begin with our very selves. They are the irrational stories (based in fear) we’ve been telling ourselves about our worth, finances, talents, abilities, success, failures, relationships, and the whole world around us for our entire lives. Most people don’t believe in themselves. Most of us do not believe in our own greatness, prosperity, abundance, and worth. As we’ve been taught to live in fear, this is not totally a fault of our own, but once we wake up to the truths of the lies our fears have been telling us, we can change the narrative of our existence and become the author of our own lives and destiny.

Self worth is your vehicle to greatness, and love is the fuel which drives you forward.

Overcoming your fears begins with developing a centered, strong, and unwavering sense of self worth. We cultivate self worth and silence our fears by traveling to the soul of ourselves and finding our true inner voice. You’ve probably heard this term before, but may not fully understand what one’s true voice is. Your true voice is the breathe that speaks to you from within. It is this divine wisdom from a deep and centered place within you that’s founded in who you really are — what you truly believe, desire, and value. This is your true voice, an inner compass which should guide your life.

Most of us cannot recognize this true voice to guide ourselves and our lives because we have failed to spend any time with ourselves. We don’t know ourselves or what we really believe or what we really want or what we really think to be true, so external voices and opinions and the whole system itself penetrates our existence and leads our lives for us.

Once you begin to navigate the landscapes of yourself, it is then you are able to develop a higher sense of self worth. Self worth is rooted in self love. The extent to which you feel worthy, good enough, and powerful, is based upon the extent to which you love yourself. You cannot love yourself, without knowing yourself first. You can’t love a person you don’t know!

Overcoming Your Fears — Let’s review:

  1. Identify your fears and analyze where they are coming from, i.e. yourself, your family, pressures of society, a job, authority figure, etc.
  2. Most of our fears are created within ourselves, we silence the voices of our fears by developing self worth and finding our true inner voice.
  3. We find our true voice and cultivate a greater sense of worth by spending time with ourselves getting to know who we are, and who we are not. We silence the external voices influencing us and our lives, when we begin to know who we are, that’s when our true voice rises within us.
  4. Self worth is rooted in self love. How much you love yourself will determine how worthy you feel, and will ultimately determine whether you listen to your true voice, overcome your fears, and live the life for yourself you previously never believed to be possible — because you believed in yourself.

Ultimate takeaways:

1. Everything is either FEAR or LOVE

2. We overcome our fears with love

Once you begin the journey of self discovery and self love, and are able to create and sustain this force of love for yourself, this love exudes from your entire being. You live from a place of love instead of fear. Everything in your physical world responds from this same place of love. You will find abundance, prosperity, happiness, and success because you are living from love (the greatest force in the universe). The more you fall in love with yourself, the more the world falls in love with you. Love is the frequency which the universe operates in, it is the highest energy which propels all matters of the world. Loving yourself and loving others is the key to tapping into the true magic of life. Love is where all things are served to the highest good.

There is nothing to be afraid of. The world is giving and infinitely abundant. Everything you want for yourself and your life is all out there waiting for you. Go get it. Fight for it. Work for it. Tap into love. Tap into it all. It all starts with you.
