iPhone 14 is already trending on Twitter, nearly a week before the iPhone 13 is even set to launch.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 13 during its “California streaming” event next week, but on Wednesday another device was stealing the spotlight: the iPhone 14. Before Apple launches this year’s iPhone 13, netizens are already talking about the iPhone 14 which will most likely launch in 2022.

iPhone 14 was trending on Twitter and Google search even many memes were made regarding this, following rumors about the future phone’s design. Alleged details of the iPhone 14, which presumably would launch in 2022, were shared by Jon Prosser of Frontpage Tech. Prosser, who has a mixed track record on device leaks, said the iPhone 14 would remove the display notch, be thicker with no rear camera bump and feature a titanium frame.

The excitement around the iPhone 14 launch in 2022, before the iPhone 13 has lead to many memes on social media platforms and has even been announced, seems to show people are eager for a notch-less iPhone. Previous rumors have suggested Apple may shrink the notch on upcoming iPhones, while others have speculated it could get removed altogether.

As it’s more than a year away, it’s hard to say with any certainty what Apple might have in store for the iPhone 14. But Apple fans can look forward to seeing the official reveal of the iPhone 13 on Sept. 14. The event, which I’ll be held virtually, is also expected to introduce a new Apple Watch Series 7.

Much like the launch date, there’s no information about the pricing of the iPhone 14. However, we can expect a price bump considering the suggested changes. Each new phone, and also Apple as a brand, represent innovation and “tomorrow,” which consumers tend to hold in high regard, says marketing consultant Katie Martell. “We really do live in a world where what’s new and what’s next is considered most valuable.”

When a new iPhone becomes available, it’s customary to see lines snaked around Apple stores hours before they open. Apple fans want to be the first to have and use a device and avoid having to wait for shipping delays. (Even this year amid the pandemic, people waited for the iPhone 12 outside Apple stores around the globe.)

It’s essentially a bit of popular folklore at this point, but the number 13 has historically been considered unlucky across several countries and cultures. There is also a phobia called Triskaidekaphobia or the fear of number 13. But the notion that calling Apple’s next-gen iPhone the iPhone 13 will have any discernible impact on sales seems utterly fanciful. And given the nature of human psychology, it wouldn’t surprise me if many of the people who said the iPhone 13 name might give them pause were primed by the question itself which asked “Could naming the next Apple smartphone ‘iPhone 13’ put you off as the number 13 can be deemed unlucky?”

Interestingly enough, some Apple fans, even before the survey was released, have said that the next-gen iPhone should be called the iPhone 14, or perhaps more simply, iPhone.

Regardless, The iPhone 14 leak may give us an early look at what next year’s iPhone may look like. However, readers should take this with a pinch of salt as this leak could turn out to be fake entirely. While there are also chances that this may hold true for the 2022 iPhone, considering Prosser’s past track record with Apple-related leaks. The best example of this is the AirTags.
