TFUEL billing support now live on EdgeCloud, integrating EdgeCloud with the Theta token economy

Theta EdgeCloud has now added an important feature by supporting Theta Fuel (TFUEL) billing for EdgeCloud usage, making TFUEL the core payment method for EdgeCloud just as it is for the thousands of global Edge Nodes that power the network. EdgeCloud users that pay for their service in TFUEL tokens will also receive a 5% discount on the going rate for the service they use, whether its AI inference and training, video livestreaming, or upcoming video/game rendering features.

EdgeCloud growing adoption

EdgeCloud adoption has recently achieved significant momentum in both US and Korean academia, with institutions like the University of Oregon, Korea University, Seoul Women’s University (SWU), KAIST, Hankuk University, and Yonsei University utilizing its hybrid cloud GPU infrastructure to advance AI research. This momentum underscores Theta’s commitment to supporting academic innovation by providing essential computational resources for today’s most challenging AI projects.

Theta Labs also recently announced key corporate customers using EdgeCloud including Jamcoding, a prominent leader in e-learning coding platforms. Through these partners EdgeCloud is now powering the most important AI use cases today, including computer vision, real-time data analytics, generative AI, Agentic AI, and large language model training and inference. And now with TFUEL payment support added, this growing adoption of EdgeCloud is incorporated directly into the Theta token economy.

While USD support is still critical to onboarding Web2 customers at this stage of crypto adoption, Theta is built to operate as a decentralized economy, so fiat usage must in turn be applied to the token economy in the form of TFUEL purchases. In this way all EdgeCloud usage is to the benefit of the Theta onchain economy, even when it comes from non-crypto native customers who pay in fiat.
