Theta CEO Mitch Liu to speak at World Knowledge Forum in Seoul, October 11th
This week, Theta CEO Mitch Liu will be presenting a keynote speech at the prestigious World Knowledge Forum in Seoul. Headlined by speakers like Fed Chairman Janet Yellen, DFJ founder Tim Draper, and NEO founder Da Hongfei, the conference will cover a variety of topics in the fields of economics, business, and technology.
As part of the “Big Tech, Big Wave: Tech Renaissance” track, Mitch will give his presentation entitled “Blockchain for Media & Entertainment and the Potential Industry Disruption”. Here’s a quick preview:
Netflix, Uber, Snap — what’s the common thread that ties these services together? They are all fueled by the new digital lifestyles of Millennials and Gen-Zs, the next generation of mass media consumers. This demographic of 13 to 25 years old pushes the boundaries by being early adopters of new technologies, demanding more engaging experiences, and looking for more transparency, sharing and democratization. They represent the next generation of Media & Entertainment (M&E) consumption.
With true “digital natives” in mind, we’ll go into a few high level trends that will shape the future of M&E. Blockchain and distributed technologies not only support inherent trust and openness, but also incentivize participation in communities and democratize content. Ultimately, blockchain technology will fuel the thirst for a completely different way to engage in digital experiences — particularly if you were born after 2000.
The presentation will not go into blockchain 101, technologies or concepts, but instead we will demo cutting edge, early blockchain pilots with key Korean media platforms and learn by seeing them in action. Hopefully, you will come out of this session with a glimpse into the future of M&E.
