Theta Guardian Node software launches on Theta testnet
The Theta Network can’t run without a community of stakeholders all working toward making the network secure, efficient, and useful. Today the protocol takes the next step toward that vision, as the Guardian Node (GN) software is released in beta for Windows, Mac, and Linux for use on the Theta testnet. Theta supporters from more than 50 countries are now staking more than 355m THETA tokens to their Guardian Nodes now, implementing Theta protocol’s Multi-BFT consensus for the first time, and earning TFUEL tokens for their network contributions.
How to run a Guardian Node on Theta testnet
Running a Guardian Node is a critical part of Theta blockchain consensus. Currently, you can participate in the beta and run a GN on the Theta testnet if you meet the following requirements:
Minimum stake: 10,000 THETA tokens
Internet speed: 5Mbps+ up and down
CPU: 4 cores or more
Memory: 8 GBytes or more
If you meet them all, just email us at support@thetatoken.org to join! Please include your Theta wallet address (but do NOT ever send private info such as private keys or seed phrases).
It’s been a long time coming and we’re happy that Theta has reached this milestone, but it’s just one step in the path to making Theta Network a success. As we implement the Multi-BFT consensus method in a true decentralized manner for the first time, we’ll closely monitor its performance and ensure the Theta blockchain continues to run smoothly. Guardian Nodes will continue to scale up until May 2020 when Guardian Nodes hit the mainnet, and Theta’s governance becomes significantly decentralized.
You can check out the open sourced code for Guardian Nodes on our GitHub, or track the new nodes and staking on the new Theta testnet block explorer.
Special thanks to EVERYONE who ran the Theta Pre-Guardian Node software these last 6 months providing valuable feedback, supported the project all this way, and been an awesome community in every way! Until then, join us on Telegram to learn more about how you can get involved.
Cheers, the Theta team
