We’re thrilled to announce Liner as the latest enterprise customer for Theta EdgeCloud. Liner is a global leader in generative AI-powered search solutions, ranked Top 10 globally in Andreessen Horowitz’s Top 50 Generative AI web services. Liner will utilize Theta EdgeCloud to scale its innovative AI search engine for over 10 million students and researchers.

Since launching EdgeCloud in June of this year, Theta Labs has gained significant traction in U.S. and Korean academia with University of Oregon, Korea University, Seoul Women’s University (SWU), KAIST, and Yonsei University utilizing its infrastructure to advance their AI research in various cutting edge fields.

Liner recently raised $29 million in Series B funding led by INTERVEST and Atinum Investment with support from Samsung Venture Investment, LB Investment, and existing investors Capstone Partners, and SL Investment, solidifying its position as a leader in specialized information retrieval. The startup is rapidly expanding in the United States, its largest market, with over 10 million registered users from prestigious universities, including UC Berkeley, Texas A&M, and The University of Southern California. According to founder and CEO Luke Jinu Kim, two-thirds of Liner’s paying users are based in U.S. academia. The company was also named to the 2024 Emerging AI+X Top 100 list, demonstrating strong growth potential, innovation, and industry transformation through AI.

Liner’s primary user base is made up of millions of students and researchers, aligning well with existing academic customers of EdgeCloud. This shared focus in academia and the AI research market enables Theta to provide the best decentralized GPU infrastructure to power the most accurate, high quality AI search engines.

“We’re impressed by Theta’s deep understanding of the academia market, researchers and students and what it takes to power our highly customized large language models,” said Luke Jinu Kim, CEO of Liner. “EdgeCloud will allow us to push the boundaries of our AI-powered search engine, focused on providing the highest quality, most accurate and transparent information retrieval to serve our millions of users worldwide.”

Liner’s AI search engine operates on a combination of GPT-4, GPT-3.5 Turbo, and its own fine-tuned Liner 7B model, designed for hyper-personalized information retrieval. By using advanced inference techniques, Liner’s AI search engine delivers precise, context-aware answers drawn from trusted sources such as journals and papers, offering reliable information for students, researchers, and professionals.

Through this partnership with Theta, Liner will significantly accelerate its AI inference tasks by utilizing EdgeCloud’s high-performance hybrid decentralized GPU resources, enabling faster and more efficient search results.
