Today marks an exciting day in the growth of the Theta Network ecosystem — the launch of the THETA.tv Android app natively built for smart TVs! For the first time, users around the world can watch a Theta-powered Android TV channel and earn Theta Fuel (TFUEL) tokens directly from their TV, by relaying the streams to other Theta viewers in the network. This means any Sony, Sharp, Philips and many more smart TVs are now powered by Theta Network along with popular Android TV set top boxes including Amazon Fire TV stick, NVIDIA Shield TV, and Roku.

The THETA.tv Android TV app available through the Google Play Store features all the same great content you expect from THETA.tv — rising esports streamers, live blockchain conferences, top content from World Poker Tour, and more.

Android TV is used on more than 25 million smart TVs in the U.S. alone, with millions more in use worldwide. With the THETA.tv app, each one of these devices is now a potential relayer in the Theta Network on a peer-to-peer TV-to-TV basis leveraging any excess unused bandwidth. Theta’s Android TV app is built on our standard THETA SDK that will be made publicly available for free to any third-party developers. So, it would be just as easy and seamless for Amazon Prime video, Netflix, Sling TV, YouTube, Hulu or hundreds of other popular streaming apps to integrate the Theta protocol.

We’re particularly excited about seeing THETA.tv running on Sony TVs, since Sony Innovation Fund is an early investor in Theta. Here’s the THETA.tv app running on a Sony Bravia for example:

The app is available in the Google Play Store now! Download it now and start earning TFUEL with your smart TV, all powered by the Theta Network.
