Who we are

Our previous work serves as a guideline of what can we offer to the Telos community.

The Teloscope is owned by CTIC, a non-profit organization focused on dynamizing Information Technologies in our industrial and social environment, and with capability and extensive experience in managing blockchain infrastructures, blockchain DApp development and divulgation. In this article we are going to focus on what CTIC has developed in the past, to serve as a guide on what it will offer in the future to the Telos community.

Since 2016 CTIC has had a branch dedicated to the research and development of blockchain technologies. From this experience we want to highlight two things, first the DApps and projects that we have developed and the publicly impactful actions along these years.

DApps:

Trough these years we have developed several DApps to showcase the potential uses of the Blockchain technology.

  • CarTrustChain: In this pilot we store relevant information about the story of a vehicle in the Ethereum public blockchain. For example we store the odometer reading during each maintenance cycle. The aim is not only prevent the odometer fraud but also improve the air quality of cities. Registering more valuable information of a vehicle, apart from its mileage, such as its correct maintenance, will also benefit the air quality of cities. Skipping maintenance is one of the primary causes of faulty engines, which cause much more pollution. In order to make the DApp visual, we have developed a Scalextric demo where vehicles periodically record their current mileage. This data can be consulted on the front end, which picks up data directly from the blockchain.

  • LiftsOnTheBlock: In this pilot we have developed a blockchain based system that registers most usual incidences that can happen to an elevator, such as broken cabin light, elevator overload, doors not closing, etc., as well as maintenance and repair activities. This way all stakeholders (manufacturers, maintenance companies, building tenants, control authorities) will share relevant information in a secure and trustworthy way, avoiding service conflicts (guarantee, insurance…) and better complying with security regulations. In order to make the DApp visual, we have developed a lift demo where record periodically components state.
  • RockMyBlock: we have developed a blockchain-based ticketing platform for the management of e-tickets that ensures security and flexibility while minimising the possibility of counterfeit tickets. The whole ticket journey can be tracked by promoters from purchase to entry. Tickets are verified simply by scanning the QR code that contains the ownership information. Once the show ends artist and promoter are automatically paid based on how many total tickets were sold and the agreed profit-sharing rules.

Projects:

We have also taken part in several projects involving multiple companies, to study the application of Blockchain to different sectors.

  • ServiceChain is structured around the aim of creating business-oriented Blockchain solutions that allow both the consortium companies and their customers to adopt Blockchain technology in their business environments. The main application features that the consortium will work are Digital Identity, Traceability of digital goods, enforcement of Smart Contracts, and legal compliance (GDPR). CTIC is the technological partner of one of the consortium companies which will develop and implement under ServiceChain project a blockchain based management system for the maintenance of solar energy production plants.
  • EfiChain: CTIC is the technological leader and main developer of the EfiChain project, an integrated collaborative system based on blockchain technologies for the efficient use of energy within a Smart City. EfiChain system will drive a better relationship between energy consumers, energy distribution companies, public institutions and companies in any sector. EfiChain is a Research and Development Project (PID) co-funded by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).

Another important pillar of our activities is the divulgation of blockchain technology. As a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to serve as a catalyst for technology adoption, divulgation is a fundamental part of it. As the branch dedicated to blockchain, we focus even more on this aspect, knowing that acknowledgement is a necessary step before adoption.

One of our main focus in this aspect has been the organization of presential meetings or workshops, and there has been already 30 of them. We have done many introductory presentations open to the public, as well as participated in blockchain conferences. But we have also given educational workshops at the university and in companies form our industrial environment, which we are very proud of, as we engage with future and present professionals to board them into blockchain technology.

Another useful tool have been the articles and podcasts released, so we can engage with more people than the presential meetings let us do. This has been a very positive decision, as it has earned regular mentions in the press, positioning ourselves as a relevant blockchain actor in Spain.

We hope to dedicate even more to this contribution towards blockchain awareness with our Telos BP candidacy. We believe that we are well prepared to manage the producer rewards and transform them into community content, as we have the experience and no profit is going to end up in our pockets.

The Teloscope is an independent nonprofit EOSIO block producer — our work is free from the influence of crypto whales or other BPs. The revenue we get from any service we provide to the Telos network is fully invested in our Telos BP infrastructure, as well as in tools and services for the blockchain community.
